We have been able to deduce the DNA signature of two of our famous leaders, plus a significant Isle of Lewis presence.

Murchadh Buidhe Matheson - Chief of the Mathesons of Lochalsh, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland
Murchadh Buidhe is on record in 1539 where he fought on behalf of the Macdonalds of Glengarry in the siege of Eilean Donan Castle. Donald Gorm MacDonald 5th of Sleat was killed as was the current Matheson Chief Iain who defended the castle for the Gairloch MacKenzies. In 1556 he failed to appear before the Queen Regent, Mary of Lorraine, in Inverness and was then declared a fugitive who could be hunted by Alexander, Lord Fraser of Lovat.  His DNA signature is deduced from documented descendants who tested.   The results show that he is from Norwegian Viking stock.
